The Sioux Empire Arts Council (SEAC)

Serving the Greater Sioux Falls, SD Region

SEAC plays a role:

  • As management of the Horse Barn Arts Center in Falls Park.
  • As host of the annual Mayors Awards for the Arts.
  • As fiscal sponsor for arts start-ups such as SculptureWalk and First Night Sioux Falls.
  • As administrator of the CommUnity Youth Mosaic wall along the river in downtown Sioux Falls.
  • As resource for regional artists and arts organizations to find opportunities in the greater Sioux Falls area. The Arts Council also assists the public in finding artists, jurying, exhibiting in businesses, gifts of art for events, and commissions of art for local citizens and businesses.
  • As facilitator of other arts projects throughout the year, such as the Fine Arts Tent at the annual Ronald McDonald Taste of South Dakota event.
  • As publisher of the Community Wonders brochure in collaboration with students at Edison Middle School, listing many of the permanent works of sculpture and memorials in the City of Sioux Falls.
  • As catalyst in the creation of the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science.

Mission: To Foster the Arts Through Service, Education, Advocacy and Coordination

For nearly 40 years the Sioux Empire Arts Council (SEAC) has served as arts advocate by expanding arts opportunities for both residents and visitors to Sioux Falls. Incorporated in 1969, SEAC works to promote all areas of the arts including visual, literary, and performing.

SEAC Believes...

  • The arts are an intrinsic part of the well being of Sioux Falls.
  • Arts education stimulates creativity, communication, and learning.
  • The arts play a significant role in tourism and economic development.
  • The arts need to involve the entire community from individuals, to businesses to government.
  • All art forms are to be encouraged and fostered as well as artists of all ages and backgrounds and from all neighborhoods of Sioux Falls.
  • The Council's mission is achieved with active participation in its governance and membership from the leadership of Sioux Falls' arts organizations and individuals who care deeply about this community.

The office of the Sioux Empire Arts Council can be found in the Horse Barn Artsc Center at the north end of Falls Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
